Name That Key · Last updated 1 August 2026
Name That Key collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party code in the app. Nothing you do in Name That Key is sent to us, because there is no server to send it to.
What stays on your device
The app stores a small amount of information locally so it can remember where you are:
- Which stages of the Learn path you've finished, and which chapter you reached
- Settings such as how many rounds you want in a set
- Any songs you add yourself in Settings
This lives on your device only. Deleting the app deletes it.
The microphone
The tuner's Check me feature listens to the note you play so it can tell you whether you're sharp or flat. Audio is analysed live on your device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. The app asks for microphone permission the first time you use that feature, and every other part of the app works without granting it.
Apple Music
The song game plays excerpts through Apple Music using Apple's MusicKit framework, and requires your own active Apple Music subscription. When you grant access, the app can request songs for playback. We don't receive your listening history, your library, or your Apple Music account details. That side of things is handled by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The rest of the app — the Learn path and the Kit — uses synthesised tone and needs no Apple Music at all.
Purchases
Membership is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the transaction and we never see your payment details, card numbers, or Apple Account information. The app asks Apple whether the current device holds an active membership; the answer is a yes or a no.
Children
Name That Key isn't directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If the app's data practices ever change, this page and the App Store privacy details will be updated before the change ships. The date at the top reflects the current version.
